Accelerated Reader
As a part of our whole school literacy programme, you will be aware that your child is participating in Accelerated Reader from Renaissance Learning.
Accelerated Reader is a computer program that helps teachers manage and monitor learners' independent reading practice. Learners pick books at their own level and read them at their own pace. When finished, they take a short quiz on the computer. Passing the quiz is an indication that a learner has understood what has been been read. Accelerated Reader gives both learners and teachers feedback based on the quiz results, which the teacher then uses to help set targets and on-going practice.
How can you help through Renaissance Home Connect?
Renaissance Home Connect is connecting parents and extending practice. Home Connect improves the school-to-home connection by allowing learners and parents/carers to log-in and view your child's reading practice and progress towards targets. Access to online results promotes discussion between parents and learners, which motivates them and can make reading practice even more effective. In addition, parents can specify up to six email addresses to receive automatic updates on their child's reading progress.
How to access Home connect
Click this link: Home Connect. This will take you to the Home Connect log-in page. Enter your child's username and password (in capital letters).
Home Connect gives parents a snapshot of your child's Accelerated Reader progress, including average percentage correct on quizzes, number of points earned and ATOS book level.
My Bookshelf: Parents and learners can see all the books read. Clicking a book shows details such as book level, word count and points. Learners are not permitted to take a quiz through Home Connect.
We now have access to over 130.00 quizzes! Please visit the Renaissance Home Connect tab to learn more. Here is a quick link to find out if your book has a quiz! http://www.arbookfind.com
Accelerated Reader in local libraries
Abergele and Kinmel Bay libraries are now on board with us with Accelerated Reader. This means that learners will be able to go into the libraries, and with the help of the staff, will be able to choose books at their level then take the quizzes at school.
