                    MRS S WILLIAMS

I am Mrs Williams and I am delighted to welcome you to Year 7 at Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan. I am confident that you will enjoy your time at the school and that you can look forward to all of the experiences that high school has in store. Like you, I will be starting the new term in September 2020 with a big change. I have taught in Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan for 30 years and I will make the exciting move from being Deputy Head to being Headteacher on September 1st.

School keeps me very busy but I also enjoy gardening and walking my very excitable Golden Retriever Archie in the beautiful beaches and countryside that we are lucky to have so close by in North Wales.

Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan prides itself on offering an excellent educational experience for all of its learners. We will support you to make sure that you are settled, happy and able to achieve to the best of your ability. Our learners will always be our priority. Supporting learning and providing excellent pastoral care is important to us, which I hope reassures you. We are very excited to meet our new Year 7 learners and to care for you throughout your learning journey.

The team of staff who have been chosen to work with you are all skilled in supporting learners and will be happy to help you to make the change from Year 6 to Year 7.  I hope that you are looking forward to taking your next steps in your new school and that you will enjoy your time in Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan.

           Headteacher (September 2020)

Welcome to year 7! I’m Miss Vaughan-Edmunds and I am so happy to meet you! I know this is going to be a great year for all of us to grow and learn together.

In the Art room, we will be exploring the use of colour and experimenting with paint. We will also be researching and drawing inspiration from the local seaside. I am excited about exploring different ways of working with you all.

Before I became a full time teacher, I was a full time mural artist. I love to paint at home and also enjoy getting outside in the fresh air and walking my dog, Bailey.

We are going to have so many new learning opportunities this year, and I am looking forward to every minute of it!

             MRS A EDGELEY-DAVIES

Hi Year 7, my name is Mrs Edgeley-Davies. I'm a food and textiles teacher, and have been teaching in Emrys for nearly 22 years, in fact I have probably taught some of your parents!

I love planning and preparing meals and am so happy when people show me what they have been cooking at home in their spare time. We run an after school cooking class so be sure to sign your names up. I like to watch cooking programmes and bring new ideas into the classroom. I've also been watching The Great British Sewing Bee on TV lately and have been reusing fabrics to make bags.

In my spare time, I enjoy swimming coaching, knitting and reading.  I can't wait to find out the books that you enjoy, I often pass on your recommendations to my children.  I'm excited to meet and support you with your first steps in high school. Take care.

                           MR J GILL

Hello year 7! My name is Mr Gill and I teach English and History. I'm super excited to meet you all in September and will be there for you whatever you need as you start your secondary school journey.

In my classroom I like to see learners who not only answer questions, but ask interesting questions too. In English we will be reading new books, writing and reading poetry, and even learning how to advertise trips. In history, we'll go back a thousand years to discover what happened at the Battle of Hastings and to see how people lived in the middle ages.

As an English teacher, of course I really enjoy reading and I always have a book on the go. I try to pick books that are a bit challenging and can teach me something new. I also enjoy hiking in the mountains (or anything outdoors), photography, writing and watching films.

                         MRS J HALL

Welcome Year 7! I’m Mrs Hall and I’m really looking forward to meeting you all in September. You’re going to have a lot of wonderful experiences here at YEAI and you’ll soon see that we all support each other like one big family and that means if you ever need someone to talk to we are all here for you.

In my classroom you’ll come across lots of different objects and artefacts because I teach Religious Education. I love how religion helps to shape a person and influences the way they see the world, but what I love most about my subject is that we get the chance to really talk about our opinions and ideas and share them with each other. We consider all sorts of ‘BIG’ questions, like ‘what made the world?’ and ‘why are we here?’ We also learn to view things from other people’s point of view and explain why we have the beliefs and ideas that we do.

The last thing you need to know is that sometimes I can be a chatterbox! I like to share things that I love, but more importantly, I love to hear from you about the things that are important to you and how your day…week…or month is going!

So Year 7…Enjoy your time here, make lots of new friends and get involved in all of the wonderful things that we have to offer!

                          MR M JONES

Hello everybody, my name is Mr Jones, I'm an English teacher and I have thoroughly enjoyed working alongside and overseeing the progress of so many successful Emrys learners over the past seven years. I'm very much looking forward to welcoming our new form to the school, and I am here for any advice, support or questions you may have about starting here in September.

As an English teacher, I have so much fun with our themes for year 7, including reading the class novel 'Skellig', writing some creative poetry, presenting a Dragon's Den-style pitch and learning about some of the most famous people on the planet. Reading is at the heart of everything we do here at Emrys, and you are given time and support to find something that's right for you - and fun! As well as all the lessons, there's so many clubs and after-school activities for learners of all ages to engage in, so whatever you're into, there's something you can find here at Emrys, and make new friends at the same time!

It's been great to see my previous form progress through the school, and I am certain they will achieve a spectacular set of GCSE results - I am sure you will do too! Outside of school, I thoroughly enjoy travelling, reading, music and anything to do with computers or technology.

                      MRS N MORRIS

Hello year 7, I’m Mrs Morris, one of the three Drama teachers at Emrys ap Iwan. I’m looking forward to meeting you all and being your form tutor in September. I’ve been lucky enough to be the form tutor of two lovely classes during my 9 years at Emrys and I’m sure you will be just as brilliant as they were. As your form tutor I will be there to listen, have fun with you and also guide you.

Drama at Emrys ap Iwan is a great opportunity to work with friends, build your confidence and explore many different themes that are important to young people. I’m looking forward to hearing all your different opinions on the topics we will cover.

                       Form Tutor - 7E

                      MR R WILLIAMS

Hi everyone, my name is Mr Williams and I'll be one of the year 7 form tutors in September ready to welcome you to your new school. My job will be to help you settle in at Emrys as quickly as possible, help you sort out any issues, and make sure that your time at Emrys is as enjoyable and rewarding as possible during the next five years.

As well as being a form tutor I also teach science and I'm sure a lot of you will be looking forward to taking part in science experiments.

When I'm not in school I like to play footgolf which involves kicking a football on a golf course as you can see in the picture.  See you in September!
