Emrys Sixth Form
Life at Emrys
The Sixth Form at Emrys ap Iwan is open to learners of all abilities; a full range of courses are available. Emrys ap Iwan offers you the very best education possible, enabling you to achieve your goals and fulfil your ambitions, whatever they may be. You will learn new skills, grow in confidence, become more independent and, most importantly, have had an unforgettable time in the process.
A genuine interest in the subjects to be studied and a willingness to apply the self discipline necessary to do justice to the courses are the key ingredients for success.
Our learners are encouraged to take part in the wider life of the Sixth Form, the school and the local community. As with anything else in life, the more effort you invest into life in the Sixth Form, the greater the benefits.
We will offer you outstanding support and guidance during your time with us. Our shared goal is to stimulate and challenge you to use all your talents positively. Support is available in school from the Head of Sixth Form and an experienced team of Form Tutors. There are also strong supportive links with many agencies such as Careers Wales.
Academic guidance is also vital in your success. Every learner is set a minimum target grade for each subject that they have chosen. Each term, your teachers will provide information about your progress. This allows all learners to be monitored to ensure that they are on target to achieve the very best grades.
Induction programme
Having completed your GCSE examinations and successfully applied to us, you will begin your programme of induction which will start to prepare you for the demands of Sixth Form. You will be guided on the choices of courses from the outset. Courses are available at Level 3 (A Level/BTEC) and Level 2 (GCSE/BTEC/Vocational).
This is followed up with a Parents’ Information Evening in the Autumn Term and ongoing sessions covering important areas such as study skills, managing your increased workload successfully, being an effective independent learner and meeting deadlines - some of the many skills we endeavour to prepare you for.
High expectations
The increasing maturity and independence of the Sixth Form learners is something that Emrys ap Iwan is very proud of. The way in which members of the Sixth Form conduct themselves is vital in terms of the accomplishment of the individuals and in terms of the ethos of the school. Mutual respect and consideration are very important and very much a two-way process.
Members of the Sixth Form represent Emrys ap Iwan within the local community and are important role models for younger learners. In recognition of their increasing maturity and sense of responsibility, we do not have a school uniform but we do expect you to dress in a manner which reflects the professionalism and high expectations of staff and learners.
