Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan's origins go back to the establishment of Abergele County School in 1895. The school is named after Emrys ap Iwan - born in 1848 at Bryn Aber, Abergele. His work in Welsh literature and writing holds him in high esteem throughout Wales, and it is fitting that the school bears his name.
The school has clear links to its Welsh heritage. Traditional values can be seen in the school crest with the Welsh words ‘Mewn Undeb Mae Nerth’, meaning ‘In Unity There Is Strength’.
