Community connections and wellbeing at Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan

At Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan, we are proud to have built strong partnerships with the local community to support our learners and their families.

Community Support

We collaborate closely with the Dinorben Family Centre, which provides vital support for young people and their families, and The Abergele Youth Shed, offering targeted interventions for groups of learners. We are also fortunate to have Mr. Wheway, a family worker from Conwy Youth Service, based at our school to support families directly.

Additionally, we maintain close links with other community groups, including:

• Abergele Food Bank
• Conwy Mind

Supporting Mental Health and Wellbeing

The mental health and wellbeing of our learners is always a top priority. This year, we have worked with a range of external agencies such as:

• CAMHs In-Reach
• The Anna Freud Foundation
• Conwy Mind

Our recent Health and Wellbeing Fair brought together many of these agencies to showcase their work to our learners. We were delighted to reconnect with VIVA and Young Carers, who have since visited the school to meet with our young people.

Celebrating Generosity and Achievements

Each December, our Christmas Fair highlights the generosity of local businesses and Abergele Town Council, who help us raise funds for local charities. This year, the school raised thousands of pounds for good causes.

We also proudly worked with the Anti-Bullying Alliance, and one of our staff members received a prestigious national award for their efforts in promoting anti-bullying initiatives.

Enriching Opportunities for Learners

Through our partnership with Careers Wales, we provide learners with valuable experiences, including STEM events that inspire future career aspirations.

Investing in Staff Development

Staff development is key to our school’s success. We collaborate with other schools through both our local cluster and the Coastal Alliance of Schools, ensuring that our team remains at the forefront of best practices in education.
